What are some options for connecting signature pads or iPads to OrthoTrac for patients to fill out medical history, sign contracts, informed consents, and other documents?
We are currently printing out paper and even scanning them into the charts are time-consuming and defeats the purpose of electronic PMS. Thank you!
Good day Dr. Chuang (rockthatsmile),
iPads cannot be used with OrthoTrac as signature pads; however, OrthoTrac does integrate with a wide range of signature pads from Topaz Systems ( http://www.topazsystems.com/is their website). The one caveat is that if a practice is using Orthotrac Cloud or if the signature pad will be used in a WTS (Windows Terminal Services) environment, that the "Remote Usage Models" recommended by Topaz (the model numbers ending in -BSB or -BBSB) should NOT be used. These models will install additional software and drivers that will interfere with Carestream's virtual channel driver used specifically for WTS/Cloud clients. Instead, use the standard -HSB models (USB cable connected).
This post has also made me realize that we don't have any knowledge pages here on installing / setting up signature pads, so I will add some articles on that subject. Look for them later today!

Thank you so much for your prompt response, Phil!
If you can add information on how to use the Signature Pad for health
histories, consent, and payment information to be fully integrated with
OrthoTrac so that we don't have to print out addtional papers and re-scan
it in, that will be super helpful.
Many thanks again!
Dr. Rita Chuang
Good day Dr. Chuang (rockthatsmile),
The new articles have been added. Here are some links to the new pages:
How to Set Up the Electronic Signature Feature (Install an Electronic Signature Pad) (directions on installing the pad itself and testing it)
How to Set Up a Letter to Capture Electronic Signatures or Initials (directions on adding the necessary merge fields to your existing AWPS letters)
How to Capture Electronic Signatures or Initials (directions on the actual process of capturing the signatures after posting the letter)
A quick summary is that you will need to purchase and install a signature pad, add whatever letters or documents you want (e.g., your health history form, consent form, and payment form) in Word Processing, and add the necessary merge fields to those letters. Once these steps have been followed you will be able to capture electronic signatures and initials.
