We run exclusively in a WTS environment and to handle desktop scanners, we have been using a product called TSScan from TerminalWorks. We have run this way for a couple of years now with no issues but it seems that when we put the recent OrthoTrac 14.2 update on our system, we can no longer get the Scan button to light up in the Patient Tracking module. If we launch our scanning software in our WTS session outside of OrthoTrac, we are able to capture documents from the scanner but we can no longer get OrthoTrac to see the scanner properly.
Did the 14.2 update make any changes to the way OrthoTrac sees scanners?

The quick answer is no, OT version 14.2 made no changes to scanning. Scanning is actually controlled through CSOI, not through OrthoTrac.
The longer answer is that OT and CSOI do not officially support networked or terminal services scanning. Scanners must be directly connected to a single workstation to scan documents or images successfully. However, below is some information from our knowledge page on scanning outside of OT in a WTS environment and situations where the Scan button is grayed out; in those cases the CSOI DLL files for scanning must be registered.
Also note that the WTS users will need to have the ability to register files with the regsvr32 command or the registering of inctwain.dll and inctwainmulti.dll will not work.
Registering the inctwain.dll and inctwainmulti.dll files to activate the Scan button in OrthoTrac:
1. From the Start menu, click Start, Run.
2. Type: regsvr32 c:\oms\inctwain.dll
3. Click OK.
4. Click OK.
5. From the Start menu, click Start, Run.
6. Type: regsvr32 c:\oms\inctwainmulti.dll
7. Click OK.
8. Click OK.
9. Restart OrthoTrac.
10. Verify that the Scan option is no longer grayed out.
If this does not resolve the problem the Twain drivers may not have been installed at all or the scanner may not be Twain compliant. To check this, open MSPaint and try to import an image from the scanner.
01. From the Start menu, click Start, Run.
02. Type: MSPaint
03. Click OK.
04. Click File. If the "From Scanner or Camera" option is in gray then either the drivers have not been installed or the scanner is not Twain compliant. To install the drivers consult the documentation that came with the scanner.
If this fails as well, please contact CSOI Support directly as they may be able to offer other suggestions.

I apologize it took me a few days to get back to this issue. For anyone who may be facing the same issue, I just wanted to report back to say that registering the two DLL files did resolve our problem so our scanners are once again working with our TSScan app and OrthoTrac.
