Schedule Standard

Jump to solution

Is there going to be a program fix, so that you can update the schedule standard and be able to search the new or changed appts, (having to create a whole new standard because you added another chair to your schedule).  This is very time consuming when your are scheduled out a year in advance.

Good day Jennifer (jennifera‌),

I'm not quite sure what you're asking.  Are you referring to the fact that you need to create a new schedule standard if you want to add additional chairs to the schedule?  Or are you referring to the fact that changing an existing standard (to block out previously pre-blocked appointment slots, change or rearrange existing pre-blocks, modify chair names, etc.) does not affect any days already added to the schedule?

If it's the former, we have previously had requests to add additional options to modifying existing schedule standards, such as being able to add additional time blocks at the beginning or end, or remove or add chairs from the standard; however, I believe from a programmatic standpoint the implementation is difficult.  I am nevertheless tagging Uriyah Robinson (uriyahrobinson)  and Rick Alfieri  (r.alfieri)  from our Development team to make sure they are aware of this suggestion.

If it's the latter, however, that aspect of the program cannot be changed.  Once a day is added to the schedule, changing the standard that it was added from will not affect that added day.  This is by design, because there are far too many ways in which the previously added schedule days could be broken or corrupted by changes to the standard templates that they were added from.  As an example, if you had a day that was added from a standard which had appointment pre-blocks from 8:00 to 9:00 in all chairs, and you scheduled patients in all of those appointment slots for that day, but then went back and edited the standard so that 8:00 - 9:00 was blocked out for appointments, all the existing appointments on that day would be overwritten by that blockout.    Instead, once the standard is changed, you would need to go back to those existing days and make the same changes to that existing day, or remove the day entirely and re-add from the new standard.

If you have any other questions, please let us know!

Hi Jennifer,

Sometimes when you are adding a standard out for a full year and you have created a new standard to reflect a big change like adding a new column, it may be beneficial to see how many days in the future have patients added on them and if there are just a scattered few print the days, remove the patients, remove the current standard and then add the new standard and reschedule the few patients that were on that day.

Yes, I know it is a lot of work and the fix your asking for would benefit not only you but many other offices.  It would be nice to add a new column or change the start or end times and be able to "apply" to added calendar days.

I was talking about the former, just adding another chair without doing a whole new standard.  The latter, I know that could never happen, way to many errors.

Hi Jennifer (jennifera‌),

Great, and thanks for the suggestion.  Just to reiterate, other offices have requested that feature and I believe it's in the works for a future version of OrthoTrac.
