HIPAA Auto Logoff

Jump to solution

We just started  getting a HIPAA Auto Logoff message each time we log onto OrthoTrac.  We spoke with OrthoTrac support, and they connected with our IT crew because they say it is an issue of interfacing with Windows.   However, they could not come up with a viable solution.  This leaves us with the choice to disable our auto log off for each work station, or put up with this message every time we log in.  What's up?  Does anyone have a work around?

Re: HIPAA Auto Logoff

Jump to solution

Good day Kathy,

If you are referring to the error message "In order to implement this feature an administrator account is needed to complete the system level configuration", this issue occurs as a result of insufficient permissions on the PC that is experiencing the issue.   (Specifically, the user is not able to write to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies registry hive).

Orthotrac Development has been informed of the issue and hopes to find a way to work around this Windows issue in Orthotrac itself, but in the meantime, there are several possible things that can resolve the issue.

1.  Instead of using a non-admin  user in Windows, launch Orthotrac while logged into Windows as an administrator with proper administrator rights. Your technician would need to set this up.

2.  Have your technician give the Windows user full control of the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies  Windows registry hive.

3.  Run Orthotrac by right-clicking the desktop shortcut and selecting "Run as administrator".

All three of these solution steps were provided to your technician and we were, in turn, told that he checked all of these things.  If that is truly the case, we have no other alternatives but to recommend that you disable HIPAA Auto Logoff entirely by going to Functions, Maintenance / Setup, System Maintenance, System Options, and unchecking the box for "Enable Automatic Logoff";   or, continue to operate as you are doing currently by going ahead and clicking through the message boxes when logging in.  The message boxes are annoying but ultimately will not keep you from working.

Regards,

Phil Carter / Orthotrac Escalation
