It would be very helpful for the software to recognize when we've entered a duplicate patient name. Right now, we receive an alert only when the SSN has been entered, and many patients are hesitant to give that information over the phone.
I could understand that desire. There are many offices, however, that do purposely enter duplicate clipboards for patients. One for general dentistry, one for ortho. This allows them to keep those balances separate if they aren't utilizing the build in ortho contracts.
Though, it might be worth putting in an option to disable or enable a warning for duplicate clipboards based on name, similar to the address validation option.

Yes, we actually have patients that intentionally have been given more than one clipboard for that exact reason (ortho), even though we use the ortho contract feature once that clipboard has been created.
The duplicate clipboard issue we are trying to avoid is most often when someone is inactive. Sometimes it has been many years and the receptionist doesn't realize they are still in the system. Sometimes is it due to a delinquent account trying to pull a fast one on us.
The only other (partial) solution I've been able to think of is to have the option somewhere in the software to have the person list default to always show inactive patients as well as active patients.
