Search Patients by First Name and Home Phone from the Person Pick List

It would be beneficial to search by first name and home phone from the person picklist.

The ability to search by first name or by phone number (from caller ID) would be a tremendous help in patient communication.

Just a note on this:

While, at the moment it may not be possible to sort and search by phone on the main person picklist, either via the phone or list>people, it is possible to download the Custom Name Search expert, which does allow for one to search using phone number and address.

To do this, go to Experts > PracticeWorks Expert Exchange. this may require level 10 access depending on the office set up. under the Downloads tab (default) look for the second PW support option and expand it. Under here look for Custom Name Search. Check the Box for it, then UNCHECK the "Download to tutorial database" option at the bottom right, then click Download. Go through the acceptance boxes to complete download and installation.

Once installed, to use, go to Experts > Contact Experts > User Defines > Custom Name search. If it ask you to generate a new expert go ahead and say yes. This way it'll include any new patients entered since the last time the expert was ran.

To search by the other columns, click the button at the top of the column to sort and this will activate the sort method for that information.

I get freaked out to download anything from the Exchange, especially with the warning we get before proceeding.  Do you use this often?  I don't want to corrupt our system.

Good morning Helen (helenmac‌)

The expert exchange is a great place to get reports that have been custom built by us here at Carestream for the PracticeWorks software. As long as you download from the PW Support section (second one) there isn't a chance of it causing any harm to your data. Realistically, if you had access to the other options, they should not cause harm either. Those generally are for other offices who've created their own and uploaded them, which usually only they will have access to anyway.

The warning in place is simply there to let the users know that these are not pre-built reports that come inside of PracticeWorks and the potential of it causing issues is only possible if for some reason the expert wasn't compete, or has variables used in it that are somehow not in your version, which is extremely rare and would only happen if your software already has something wrong in it anyway.

Some experts only work in certain versions, and it will let you know that it won't install on your current version if that is the case. Otherwise, you're more then welcome to download and use them as you please, even to tweak them if you take the time to learn how to. You can also ask one of us in support to make minor tweaks to them as well.

If you're just waning to see what an expert does though you can leave the box checked at the bottom right to allow it to install to the Tutorial database, this will make it so it will only install to the tutorial data and you can then open the tutorial copy of PracticeWorks and try it out there before downloading and installing to the live database, by unchecking the box to download to the tutorial.

I hope this helps ease that unease. You're also welcome to call and we can help walk through finding, downloading, and using any expert you might need. A few of use even have the knowledge and experience to create brand new experts, as long as the internal variables we have access to will allow it.

Thank you so much!  I know another office I worked for used the Experts all the time and were very helpful.  I just haven't been able to create our own to duplicate what they had.  This helps a lot!
