I have never worked with a practice management software that did not allow a search by first name, it was very hard for me to get used to. Last names can be difficult to understand or spell sometimes, it would be much easier to look by first name. Also, it can be embarrassing when a patient we know well calls or stops by and we have to ask them for their last name or how to spell it because we can't think of it. And there are MANY times one of us thinks of a patient but cannot quite remember their name. "You know the guy, I think his name is John, tall, dark hair, works construction, likes cars?" or "What's Christina Smith's new last name? I need to call her but I can't find her". These conversations happens quite often.
That is quite understandable Rita, which is why the Custom Name Search Expert was created and made available for everyone to download and use within PracticeWorks. I posted the steps to download and use it above, but if you have any questions please let me know
I follow your guidance to insert the "cell phone no" by adding a column for it. But when click the top of either "Home phone No" or "Cell phone No", I cannot type anything in "Find". The only way to do search is "scroll down" the long list.
Sometimes we need to find out who the caller of the missed call is. Please help.
When you added the column for the cell phone, did you select the sort method as wither ascending or descending? Those will allow that column to be selected to activate the search.
Though, I'm my own experience sometimes, especially with number based columns, if it doesn't work on one method it will on the other. So it might be worth a try switching which method is selected.
Thanks, Johnathan. So do you mean I have to browse through the whole list either ascendingly or descendingly? Can't you just type the phone# to find the people?
it should allow you to search by typing the number. try using both the number pad and the number row. IF the number pad doesn't work but the number row does, make sure the Num lock is enabled.
However, it should allow you to type in the numbers in either ascending or descending, but sometimes it seems to only want to work in one or the other, and never consistent to which one. I'd edit the column and switch which sort it's using if needed, then try to search by typing the numbers, as long as the cell phone column is selected at the top of the search window.
