Customer Guidance for WannaCrypt(Ransomware) attacks

In March 2017 Microsoft released a security patch for supported operating systems, however systems such as XP, Server 2003 and Vista were not included and were/and will remain vulnerable to such attacks carried out on the 12th May 2017.

More guidance around updates can be found here :

Customer Guidance for WannaCrypt attacks – MSRC

All users should review their systems to ensure they are protected:

- If you are running Windows Pro 7, 8 , 10, Server 2008, 2012 ensure windows update is run.

- Users running Microsoft XP, Vista or Server 2003 should upgrade their hardware/software to the latest operating system.

- Update Anti Virus definitions.Note: Antivirus may not be effective if running on a non supported operating system.

- Backup, Backup, Backup!!

Single backup solutions may also be susceptible if a system has been attacked. It is recommended that multiple backups are obtained or use of an online backup system that will keep at least 30 days worth of data.
