Which code do you use when a new patient comes in for a consultation for implants? If we take a panorex and do exam? I would say use D0140 and D0330. Scenerio #2 patient comes in with filling out, we take 1 PA and then do a filling D2391. Do you charge out an exam also? I would charge D0140, D0220, D2391.
That is the coding we would use as well.
I know Delta Dental disallows D0140 paired with restorative treatment.... at least for in network dentists.
Scenario 1: As a General DDS we use 140 for Emergency exams, 9310 for consults if we are not the patients' general dentist but may be performing an implant or ortho.
Scenario 2: yes, we charge for emergency exam 140.
Additionally, we use 180 for all complete exams in which the patient could be periodontally involved. Regular comp exams are 150 and of course 120 for recall exams. 9110 is also used for emergency appts in which need palliative tx. 9110 will not be paid with an exam, plans and code allow for either or.
