How is Version 17 going for everyone?

We are getting ready to upgrade to V 17.  Any feedback for those who are using it would be greatly appreciated.  Is it going well?  Are there any bugs that need to be worked out?  Thank you, in advance.

Functionality:  v17.0 no longer allows multiple windows left open. In 16, you would see the open window in the left margin and could toggle between views, ie, perio, restorative, progress notes.  V17 demands you close each window before opening another, which is an annoying and inefficient way to manage data entry.

Fonts:  they are simply harder to read!  V16 allowed me to read entries from 4 feet away.  Now I need to move over to the monitor to read...  I would suggest the beta team evaluate these type of issues and remember that the tests need to be done in real-time, clinical settings...not just sitting at a desk and viewing.

Clinical/Charting:   We live in a world of evidence-based data which requires that we document all reasons to support the care we offer.  Softdent continues to fail to provide this functionality.  You can list a condition, but you are limited, and there is no easy way to view your conditions.  I would suggest they program either a new tab on the restorative screen that uses right mouse click to add a custom code for each condition, ie, fracture, incomplete fracture, recurrent decay, new decay, endodontically treated, large filling etc., and allow these conditions to be exported when insurance is submitted.  Or perhaps a new column in the treatment planning list that can be edited and viewed.   There are a lot of choices on ways to enhance the clinical module, but Softdent continues to fail to recognize this need.

You asked, I vented, hope that helps.   This exchange needs to be utilized more to add feedback to improve the software...I don't usually feel this is the case...dealing with simple issues is useful, but once again could be resolved if Softdent would provide a simple YouTube or similar video for initial training, and specific areas.   I would not be adverse to paying for these services myself, and I think it would solve a lot of Softdent's support problems.   If a Softdent development team member wants more feedback, I would be glad to add more input.

Hello Dr. Lagergren,

Thank you for your comments here. This is the kind of stuff we like to get!

Functionality: Yes, we are aware of this multi window change. This was an unintentional change that happened when we brought the Notes/Doc Tree into the tabs. I would like to get this addressed but there are now some technical hurdles we need to think about. Unfortunately, it's not a small effort.

Fonts: This is great feedback and you are definitely not the only one here. We have a complete font/color review in the works for Overview V2.

Question: Do you now use the Overview in your workflow? Are you enjoying having the info in one place?

Clinical/Charting: Again, great feedback. We are tackling different parts of SoftDent as the development schedule allows. We definitely plan on getting to charting to see the best way to enhance it from many angles. When the time comes, maybe we can chat about your ideas in charting. With the release of 17.1 - Out now! - we did modify the way to view conditions in the patient banner in the chart. Check it out and I'd love to hear your feedback on the banner.

I think the plan is looking at how Clinical Notes works first - do you have opinions on that?

Thanks for venting in a place where we can see it and take action. I agree with you completely about the community being utilized more for feedback.

Carestream offers many different training opportunities that work with you, your schedule and your office. Let me know if you'd like more info on that!

Patient medical history can be updated once in a 24 hour period but edits are not retained. This is a potentially dangerous situation and offices should be warned and a solution should be found asap.  Not addressing this issue immediately is negligent.

Yes, this was a defect introduced in 17.

It has been fixed in 17.1 which is due to start shipping this week.

There are alot of things that need to be corrected. If you don't add a comment along with the procedure codes in treatment card, the procedure codes do not show up. The procedure codes should stand alone for documentation in most cases, so there shouldn't be a need for additional comments on everyone. We found out the hard way. We now have several patients who had visits and there is no documentation of what was done because we didn't know.

Another issue is that the color changes for your documentation doesn't show up unless you go to the visit history area(which is separated now.)

We switched back to the previous version and will wait for the bugs to be fixed.

This does seem to be Treatment Card related which is our Orthotrac product. SoftDent does not have a Tx Card.
If you would post your comment in the OT "place": , your issue will be seen by those who can address it. Thanks for contributing to the discussion around making all of our software better!

If we don't know the issues we can't correct them!

Emily, I see that you are an orthotrac user.  Do you also use Softdent?

We noticed in the chart, to add a watch, or view a watch, we are kicked back to the overview tab each time, and then have to go back to the restorative tab and continue and get kicked back to overview again for each watch we touch.

Thank you for the feedback.  Are there any issues with add-on's such as Kodak digital x-ray sensors (RVG 6200) functioning properly?  Intra oral cameras?  We have heard that this may be an issue and I wanted to ask those who are using it.

I have not heard of any issues with our / Kodak sensors. There was an issue with Dexis/Vixwin but that has been resolved.

Thank you!  Glad to hear.

We have not had any problems with our digital sensors or our intra oral cameras.

There appears to be a glitch in viewing team talk notes.  After posting a team  talk note, when it pops up, on a prompt a portion of the beginning note is missing.  If you click on it then the complete note is seen...

This is a known issue and is being worked on currently for 17.1. Thanks for reporting it.

My admin and clinical teams love being able to be in the chart at the same time.

We have found a few glitches that we are hoping will be fixed in 17.1. If we make a medical history update to a chart we can't go back in that medical history and make any changes it won't save the changes. So hopefully that gets fixed with the update.

Hi Barb, have you talked to support about the medical history update issue?

Yes I have. We also have the team talk issues where you cant read it all and that you have to click on the message to get it to show. That was a problem for us in the beta program also.

I have that issue as well and it was also in the beta version
