Office 365 64 bit incompatibility with Softdent v18

Does anyone know when Softdent v18 will be able to support MS Office 365 64bit?

Recently had to downgrade to 32 bit to be able to place reports in Excel. The 32 bit version of MS Office is causing problems. I would like to revert back to the 64 bit as soon as Softdent can support it.

Thanks,

John

@wardjohn @bccarestreamrep  That would be my understanding as well, Softdent has no future plans to convert to 64bit for softdent so therefore it can't communicate with 64 bit versions of office, you can still use office 2019 just the 32 bit version. What kind of issues are you having?  Our office is using 32 bit Office and with the bottlenecks of 32 bit applications it kind of sucks but office isn't that performance demanding as softdent so we have noticed any significant performance issues.

@wardjohn this should give you a hint of where Softdent is going in the future (or not going).

Ron:

Once upon a time @lisaashby assured me that Carestream was committed to taking care of their loyal users. As you can imagine, if you’ve been a loyal Softdent user for 29 years, our patience has been tested. However, I am still hopeful that Ms. Ashby is a woman of her word and will commit the resources necessary to raise the program to its competitive place in the marketplace.

The monthly stipend we pay is gladly paid in the hope that the team will deliver.

Keep the faith, Ron!

John, thanks, and I believe we are similar long-term, loyal Softdent users.  We started in 1992.  So we've been thru quite a lot of ... let's just say, hills and valleys, with regards to Softdent.  I've never met Ms. Ashby but I trust she'll keep her word as well.  However, we worked closely with Larry Greenspan, Bonnie  Pugh, Steve Mallot, and many of the former Carestream group leaders.  I would assume you've likely been a beta tester, like us, and our office was one of the first on Scheduler version live.  There aren't many of us on that version anymore, and if you notice, Sensei Cloud, has that same Scheduler, but I hear it has the bugs removed!  Oh,  I  could go on and on, but back to dentistry!!

John, we can always HOPE!  :We've worked with Tyson of late as well.  He and his team deserve bunches of kudos for the act of overcoming the record lock issue that was haunting many of us long time users for a long, long time.  Those type of issue resolution achievements are encouraging.  If you and I put our mind to it, along with many other loyal Softdent users, we could come up with a pretty extensive list (I'm sure there are lists in the corporate drawers) that contain ideas, enhancements, and the like that we've added to along the years.  Unfortunately, that record lock issue and the charting enhancements of a few years ago are the last of some great improvements.  There was nothing of significance to v.19, so we're still on v.18.  They working on v.20?  Here in GA - Softdent is probably qualified for an "antique" license plate (25 years of age).  I'm afraid the term "legacy" has already been applied.  I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I agree. Most corporate models have their agendas set by accountants. I get it.

Revenue stream is extremely important. However, there’s an often overlooked principle in forgetting what brought them to “the dance”.

To be transparent, PMS is not heavily weighted in profit margins. Yet, to neglect this piece of the overall composite is perilous to brand loyalty. The best pool of potential CBCT buyers comes from loyal satisfied long term enthusiastic software users!

If the upper management is monitoring this thread, I would encourage you to assure the readers that you are listening.

Thanks!

Hi All

Softdent as mentioned is not a 64bit program, and would need significant redevelopment to make it such.

We are releasing some really exciting pieces this year for Softdent which introduces the new technology we have at our disposal, as well as continuing to address issues within Softdent and make incremental improvements in each release.

Look out for Lightening Strikes emails in your inboxes which are being sent out as I type, these introduce you to some of the pieces being made available.

Check out Drew's post on the Exchange earlier this week - more to come!

You are correct. Like your office, we began in 1992 and was an early beta tester.

Tyson Edwards is a sharp programmer and has the skill set I believe to sharpen and shape the program. Of course it all comes down to capitalization. If given the resources and team support, I suspect this thread from a couple of “old timers” might reflect a different tone!

Blessings to you and your team, John

Yes, we are currently looking into that now and we think we have a sight on it for the next release.

Hoping to also get the 'multi-file upload' into the next release as well.

I know you've been waiting for that one for awhile!

Tyson:

So to hear from you! Thanks for the response on the 64 bit. And yes the multi upload will be a blessing. I look forward to both items!

Do you still have our contact information? I wanted to ask about Jeremy.

Thanks,

John

Any update on when the compatibility issue will be addressed?  Last post is over a year ago!  Very frustrating trying to manage a practice without the ability to push data to Excel.  Just crazy to be honest.

Hello @doreen0304

Since SoftDent is not a 64bit program, it can only integrate with 32bit Office. As far as I've heard, there are no near plans to turn SoftDent into a 64bit program. If you need the use of Excel, I would suggest going ahead and installing the 32bit install of Office if you haven't done so already.
