Referral Correspondence

Jump to solution

Does anyone have a HIPPA compliant means of emailing our referrals directly from the patient work space?

With the ability to attach images and reports?

And with a date stamp on the patients ledger or elsewhere in the record as to what was sent, when it was sent and to whom it was sent?

This should be a standard feature that the doctor can easily manage as he/she completes the documentation, ect...

Please chime in....

Currently we do not.  You could create the document in an EMR note, create it as a PDF ad then email it through there.  That would connect to the email you are using in the office.  (not encrypted unless you do so yourself)  However this would not automatically log the fact that you emailed the document.   You would have to add a contact note after the fact.

We use Sesame. It pairs with OrthoTrac. It has encrypted email, and we just pull images and letters from the patient chart and send them to referring doctors.

We use EMR notes for everything. When we send correspondence to referring dentist, the letter we send is part of the EMR chart, we create PDF and attach it to our emails, which are encrypted. We also export the xrays and attach them to the emails as well. When we are finished we make a note that says what was sent.. Here is what ours look like. This is an example of our letter that is sent to the DDS after an implant. Even if the Dr dictates, as long as it is uploaded to the EMR notes it can be emailed directly along with any other attachments.

Question, when you send letters digitally are you sending them on letterhead?

I am using office 365 outlook with the pbhs plug in.

Can you show me how to do this

And...

How can I attach X-rays, images, path reports and other document with the email?

This would be so helpful.

As it is....all of these need to be uploaded out of WinOMS to a desktop file

Then attached to an email.

Has to be a better, more efficient HIPPA compliant method to communicate with our referrals.

A time / date stamp would be the cherry on the sundae

Too many steps

Too many ways to error

Too costly

Is this something that Carestream is interested in pursuing? If so, have an engineer contact me to discuss......I have an excellent platform idea that would be a real game changer..... Anthony L. Ragonese, DDS
